Our story

It begins with a simple act.

A tree. A little soil. A decision to leave the world better than we found it.

The idea behind PlantsaTree

Make caring for the planet something people can actually do.

The most important environmental stories do not always begin with a large institution or a sweeping announcement. Sometimes they begin quietly, with a person kneeling beside a sapling and working soil back around its roots.

That image captures the heart of PlantsaTree. The initiative, presented by Groundcrew, is shaped by a belief that the health of our surroundings and the legacy we leave are connected. Trees invite us to act now for benefits that may stretch far beyond our own lifetimes.

We want to bring that idea into everyday life: a tree for a community, a tree to honor someone, a tree associated with a meaningful occasion, or simply a tree because the world can use another well-planned place of green.

Not a promise of instant change. A commitment to begin—and to keep showing up.

The work is personal.

The photographs that tell this story are deliberately close to the ground. They show planting, time outdoors, and the people who give the work its meaning. It is not a glossy abstraction. It is hands, weather, care, and patience.

Planting is a beginning rather than an outcome. Trees grow when they are suited to their site, properly established, and cared for. That understanding guides how we describe our plans and measure progress.

Today, tomorrow, and into the future.

Today, we can choose to take action. Tomorrow, that action calls for attention and care. Into the future, a healthy tree can become shade, shelter, memory, and a living part of its community.

That is the story we want PlantsaTree to help others create, one thoughtful planting at a time.

The principles

What guides the work.

01

People first

Make the opportunity accessible and meaningful, whether someone begins with one tree or a community idea.

02

Nature on its terms

Honor climate, soil, species suitability, local ecology, and the need for establishment care.

03

Tell the truth

Keep requests separate from verified plantings, and make claims only when there is evidence to support them.

The next chapter begins with you
